This week, WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun and UZDM President Dolkun Isa carried out a series of high-level advocacy activities in Canada, together with the Uyghur Rights Advocacy Project (URAP).
On 16–17 November, they participated in the Toronto Democracy Forum 2025, where Dolkun Isa delivered remarks on the growing threats to democracy, the rise of authoritarian regimes, and the ongoing Uyghur genocide. The delegation also highlighted China’s transnational repression and the urgent need for coordinated global action.
On 19 November, the delegation attended the “Welcome to M62 First Arrivals” reception — an important event hosted by the Parliamentary Uyghur Friendship Group and URAP to support the newest Uyghur refugees resettled under Canada’s M62 initiative. The gathering brought together Members of Parliament, ministers, civil society leaders, and the Uyghur community. Key speeches were delivered by Sameer Zuberi, Garnett Genuis, Yves-François Blanchet, and Mehmet Tohti, all reaffirming Canada’s commitment to protecting Uyghurs seeking refuge and defending human rights.
