Human Rights Watch has raised new accusations against the Chinese authorities: according to the report, the Uyghurs are being increasingly persecuted in the province of Xinjiang. People are now being locked up for things like \" looking for a dispute\".<\/p>

The accusations of human rights crimes against the Uyghurs in China do not cease. According to research by Human Rights Watch (HRW), the government in Beijing is reported to have massively expanded the criminal prosecution of Muslim minorities in recent years. In the province of Xinjiang, long prison sentences are imposed for dubious offenses such as \" looking for dispute,\" the human rights organizations explained.<\/p>

Between 2017 and 2019, the numbers jumped massively during a harsh crackdown on Uyghurs and other largely Muslim minorities, the report said. In 2017, for example, nearly 100,000 people were convicted, compared with fewer than 40,000 the year before, according to HRW.
