When athletes and sports champions have attempted to speak up about various human rights movements, be it Black Lives Matter or the Hong Kong pro-democracy movement, they have been met with backlash, not from audiences, but from sports associations and, at times, governments. For former NBA player Royce White, his expression of support was met with silence.<\/p>

At a televised event in July, White held up a T-shirt reading, \"Free the Uyghurs.\" On social media, the sports star wrote, \"When you know a moment like this should be going viral but instead you get crickets from media outlets\u2026 that\u2019s when you know you\u2019re doing it the right way.\" He added, \"When it doesn\u2019t suit anybody to talk about justice and freedom, that\u2019s when you should talk about it.\" read more<\/a><\/p>
