Uyghurs protest against visit of Chinese foreign minister

Turkey and China want to cooperate, among other things, in the corona pandemic. Hence the visit of the Chinese foreign minister.

In Turkey, nearly 1,000 Uyghurs protested against the visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Ji.

They gathered near the Chinese Consulate General in Istanbul and demanded the closure of the so-called "re-education camps" for Uyghurs in China. About 50,000 representatives of the Muslim Turkic people live in Turkey. They fled oppression by the Chinese state, but now fear extradition based on a 2017 treaty between China and Turkey.

Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu assured that he had raised the issue of the Uyghurs at the meeting. read more
