The extension of the city's participation in the institute of the same name is pending - not everyone wants that
This institution has existed for five years now and joins the phalanx of several hundred institutes of this kind worldwide. Its self-declared goal is to promote the Chinese language and culture, and it sees itself as being on a par with the German Goethe Institutes or the centers of the Spanish Instituto Cervantes; the home port of the Confucius Institutes is the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China.
And doubts are already beginning to grow: Are these Confucius Institutes not arms of the propaganda apparatus of the totalitarian Chinese state leadership? Accusations of this kind are made again and again and are of course now also an issue in Ingolstadt.
