A massive DDoS attack on the ISP for government agencies and institutes in Belgium even caused a parliamentary debate to be cut short.
Yesterday, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, the Belgian Internet provider Belnet repelled a massive DDoS attack. This affected websites and services of numerous Belgian authorities and state institutions such as schools, research institutions and ministries. Belnet writes that the situation is now stable again. However, it also states: "We remain watchful to counter new attempts".
The provider says it is currently continuing to work with affected customers to combat the effects of the DDoS attack. Belnet published initial reports on the DDoS attack at around 12 p.m. on Tuesday. The situation was not under control again until around 5 p.m., according to the provider's status updates. To this end, the team took some countermeasures, it said.
According to the AP news agency, the outages affected, among others, the offices of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Brussels or online services for the allocation of appointments for Corona vaccinations.
