In the Chinese autonomous region of Xinjiang, the Chinese Communist Party imprisons over one million members of Turkic minorities, particularly the Muslim Uighur religious minority, in specially constructed state-run camps for re-education.
From numerous witness reports and research by journalists and human rights experts, it has since become known that the inmates in these camps are regularly victims of torture, sexual violence and psychological terror. Through daily indoctrination to internalize the communist state ideology, the Uyghurs are systematically deprived of their cultural identity both in freedom and even more so in captivity.
In the meantime, even official statistics of the Chinese government document the consequences of this brutal strategy, with which China disregards numerous human rights agreements it has signed. The birth rate of the minorities in Xinjiang has plummeted massively since the state and party began this systematic campaign a few years ago.
