After the Olympics, Michelle Bachelet may travel to Xinjiang, according to a report. However, Beijing imposes conditions on the visit.
Beijing After more than two years of negotiations, China has allowed UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet to visit the Uyghur region of Xinjiang, according to a newspaper report. Bachelet will be allowed to travel to the region in western China after the Beijing Olympics, the South China Morning Post reported, citing unnamed insiders.
The condition, he said, is that it be a "friendly" visit and not research. They are in contact with China about a possible visit in the first half of this year, Bachelet's spokesman said Friday. But such a visit could only take place without restrictions, he said.
