UZDM President Dolkun Isa, Vice President Erkin Zunun, Executive Director Hayiuer Kuerban together with WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun, WUC members, and camp survivor Kalbinur Sidik, met last week with the President of Catalonia, Carles Puigdemont. During the meeting, Dolkun Isa presented his book “The China Freedom Trap” to Mr. Puigdemont.
The relationship between Mr. Puigdemont and Dolkun Isa goes back to 2017, when Dolkun Isa was received at Mr. Puigdemont’s home and conducted an interview with him. Since then, Mr. Puigdemont has continued to show unwavering support for the Uyghur people, being one of the first leaders in 2018 to publicly stand against China’s genocide.
This bond of solidarity has grown stronger over the years. Every year on 11 September, Catalonia’s National Day, Dolkun Isa travels to Barcelona to stand with the Catalan people in their struggle, as an Uyghur sharing the same fight for freedom and dignity.
