The World Uyghur Congress (WUC) and the Uyghur Center for Democracy and Human Rights (UZDM) concluded a week of advocacy at the 62nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva. The delegation, comprising WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun, WUC Vice President Zumretay Arkin and UZDM President Dolkun Isa, raised awareness of China’s ongoing repression of Uyghurs, including transnational repression, enforced disappearances, the plight of Uyghur refugees, and the continuing human rights violations in East Turkistan. Throughout the week, the delegation met with diplomats, UN officials, civil society organizations, and UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants Gehad Madi to advance accountability and strengthen international action. The delegation also participated in a side event organized by Tibetan partners on Tibet, Taiwan, and the erosion of the international rules-based order.

Throughout the session, members of the delegation were also followed, photographed, and filmed by Chinese government-organized NGOs (GONGOs) highlighting the ongoing intimidation and surveillance faced by Uyghur advocates at international forums.
On Friday, Zumretay Arkin also spoke at a side event organised by the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights on the implications of the new Ethnic Unity Law for Uyghurs. chinesischen Regierung organisierten Nichtregierungsorganisationen (GONGOs) verfolgt, fotografiert und gefilmt, was die anhaltende Einschüchterung und Überwachung verdeutlicht, der sich uigurische Aktivisten auf internationalen Foren ausgesetzt sehen.
Am Freitag sprach Zumretay Arkin außerdem bei einer von der Helsinki-Stiftung für Menschenrechte organisierten Nebenveranstaltung über die Auswirkungen des neuen Gesetzes zur ethnischen Einheit auf die Uiguren.
