Our demo in front of the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs on April 28, 2021
Today we demanded from the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and the City of Munich to end their patronage of the Bavarian-Chinese Spring Festival. German politics must not support Chinese propaganda!
Here is the speech of the President of the World Uyghur Congress Mr. Dolkun Isa:
It always amazes me to see how little attention politicians and business representatives pay to the genocide of the Uyghurs. Forced labor, forced sterilization, rape, torture, as well as the forcible transfer of children of the community to another community can be found on the long list of human rights violations of the Chinese government in East Turkistan. In sum, this is clearly genocide!
Despite these serious human rights violations, the Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, and the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich have once again taken on the patronage of the Bavarian-Chinese Spring Festival. Thus they actively support the propaganda of the Chinese government. Thus, they actively support the propaganda of the Chinese government. This cannot be accepted!
Mr. Aiwanger, Mr. Reiter, we wrote to you to point out the dramatic situation of the Uyghurs and asked you to meet with representatives of the Uyghur community. We did not even receive a reply from you. As an elected representative, you owe it to your constituents to meet with them as well as civil society organizations.
The human rights violations against the Uyghurs must be clearly addressed at all levels. Thus, we demand that the genocide against the Uyghurs be a central topic of today's German-Chinese government consultations. It is no longer time to conduct business as usual.
There are about 1,000 Uyghurs living in Bavaria who have found protection here. Almost everyone had to break off contact with their family. We do not know what happened to our relatives, whether they are still alive. The Free State of Bavaria and the city of Munich are still closing their eyes to the human rights crimes against the Uyghurs in order not to spoil their good business with China. Human rights must not be traded for economic interests! There must be no complicity with a regime that commits genocide!
Our rally lasted from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Minister Aiwanger unfortunately did not come out of the ministry and hid behind the doors of the building.
