Much like the Nazis in Berlin in 1936, China's leadership will use the Beijing Winter Olympics in February to produce glamorous images - while brutally repressing minorities like the Uighurs. A diplomatic boycott of the Games would be the least they could do.

In less than four months, the 2022 Winter Olympics will begin in Beijing. While athletes, commentators, and broadcasters are dazzled by the aura of spectacular effects, brand-new stadiums, and smiling mascots, the Chinese state will continue to brutally oppress Uighurs, Tibetans, Hongkongers, Taiwanese, and other minorities.

In China's Xinjiang province, between 1.8 and three million Uighurs and other Turkic peoples are held in concentration camps while being subjected to a campaign of brainwashing, torture, and dehumanization. This includes the sterilization and rape of women. Prisoners are tortured and subjected to medical experiments.

This is the largest internment of religious and ethnic minorities since World War II. read more
