Last week, UZDM President Dolkun Isa joined a united Uyghur delegation at the UN Forum on Business and Human Rights and the UN Forum on Minority Issues, alongside WUC President Turgunjan Alawdun, VP Zumretay Arkin, EC Chair Rushan Abbas, CUS Executive Director Abdulhakim Idris, and UK delegate & Stop Uyghur Genocide Director Rahima Mahmut. Together, they ensured that Uyghur rights remained firmly at the centre of global discussions.
During the UN Forum on Minority Issues, UZDM President Dolkun Isa delivered a powerful intervention on the contributions of unrepresented communities. He highlighted how the Uyghur diaspora has rebuilt cultural and civic spaces erased in the homeland—through language schools, cultural centres, artistic work, democratic organising, and community institutions. He stressed that despite genocide, systemic cultural destruction, and the imprisonment of scholars, religious leaders, and cultural figures—including Professor Ilham Tohti, Dr. Rahila Dawut, Tashpolat Tiyip, Dr. Gulshen Abbas, and even his own brothers—Uyghurs continue to contribute to the societies where they live. He warned that linguistic rights, the foundation of identity, are under severe assault as the Uyghur language is removed from schools and public life, undermining the transmission of memory and identity. Dolkun Isa urged states to create conditions where cultural and linguistic expression are protected, civic participation is respected, and unrepresented voices can speak freely—including within UN forums.

Overall, the Uyghur delegation demonstrated a strong, coordinated presence across both UN gatherings, working intensively to ensure that forced labour, cultural suppression, and the Uyghur genocide were addressed openly and directly.
